Bead-A-Thon, Tucson, 2008

I had a BLAST down at the Sonoran Glass Art Academy in Tucson for it's first annual Bead-A-Thon event, which was held Friday and Saturday, September 12th and 13th, 2008. We had a great time making beads for children and the Beads of Courage charity. Beads of Courage is a wonderful charity that promotes the well-being of children coping with serious illness. Check them out at www.beadsofcourage.net

I would like to give special thanks to Margaret Zinser (www.mzglass.com) for being such a wonderful host and doing such a great job to help organize this event. She also did an excellent job as Auctioneer at the Bead Auction on Saturday night. I'd also like to thank Raychel Stein (www.birdsongbeads.com) for sharing a bed with me (NO! Not that way!) and being a good friend. Everyone at Sonoran was great, and I'd like to thank Alex for running the financials, Andy for such entertaining conversation and Karl for the wonderful tour of the shop! Thanks to everyone who was there and was involved.

Above are some pics of Sonoran's studio and many of the hard-working (but fun-loving) beadmakers who donated their time during these 2 days to make many gorgeous beads during this event. We had a wonderful time, and the studio kept things interesting with several different challenges along the way. Several winners were chosen per challenge and they gave away some nice prizes (hats, shirts, georgeous beads, glass books, etc.)!

The first picture above is of the bagged purple hearts we made during Friday's torching sessions. We counted a total of 204 beads - just for Friday!! We Rock!! The other pictures above are some of the beatiful glass art that they have at the studio. I just love the pumpkins!!!

These shots I took during the Auction night, which was held at Elle down in Tucson. We had hor'dourves, wine, mingling - it was great! there were models wearing all the beads donated for the aution, and the auction itself was very successful, raising even more for the Beads of Courage program. I would of liked to taken more pictures of the crowd but I was losing the light.

The last picture is of myself (ugh! - on the right), Margaret (middle) and Raychel.
